17 new cases of COVID in NSW

2 weeks ago 14

There have been 17 new cases of coronavirus diagnosed in New South Wales up to 8pm on Tuesday.

Of those, one was locally acquired with no known source, and one is a returned traveller in hotel quarantine.

The other 15 cases are linked to known clusters; eight to the Sydney CBD cluster, six to the cluster at St Paul’s College in Greystanes - where the original source is still under investigation, and one with Liverpool Hospital.

There were 20,083 coronavirus tests performed in Tuesday’s testing period.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said despite today’s high numbers in comparison with recent weeks, residents should “feel optimistic” about the future.

“We have challenges ahead of us, but NSW has shown incredible resilience, incredible capacity to work together, and that’s really inspired me to have much more hope and optimism for the future,” she said.

Girraween Public School, in Sydney’s west, was evacuated on Tuesday afternoon, with a message sent to parents asking them to pick up their children after one student tested positive to coronavirus.

The school remains closed on Wednesday, with parents expected to be told of plans to reopen the institution later today.

The Camp Australia OOSH attached to the school was also closed and remains closed on Wednesday.

Reddam Early Learning Centre in Lindfield was also closed on Tuesday following a rise in cases associated with the centre.
