22 Sydney bus rides on alert after trainee driver tests positive

1 month ago 18

Commuters are on high alert after a bus driver tested positive for COVID-19. Positive cases also caught buses in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

The trainee bus driver worked for three days while infectious on August 20, 21 and 24 across several routes in the city’s west including Blacktown, Rouse Hill and Mt Druitt, as well as the Hills District.

Some of the routes include school buses.

“Passengers who may have used the following bus routes must be alert for symptoms and if they develop, immediately get tested and self-isolate,” NSW Health said in a statement.

The other two cases involve commuters who took a bus from the city to the eastern suburbs over three days while infectious. Their infection is linked to Tattersall’s gym in the city centre.

They travelled to and from Martin Place and Randwick on the 339 or X39 bus routes on August 21, 22 and 24.

“Anyone who catches these routes should be considered casual contacts and monitor for symptoms,” NSW Health said.

NSW recorded six new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, five of those are under investigation.

Here’s a full list of the bus routes the driver worked on:

Last week Rail, Tram and Bus Union secretary David Babineau confirmed five Sydney bus drivers had returned a positive result for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, but it was not possible to trace where they became infected and whether or not it was from a passenger.

“There have been a handful of people that have tested positive. In some instances it was determined that they likely caught it elsewhere,” he said.

“But the bottom line is we will really never know.”
